As companies grow, so do the layers of complexity. With these added layers, the quality of interaction between people in an organisation can be seriously compromised. Many companies try to solve this problem by looking at different ways of organisational design or structure. At Human Insight, we have come up with a different way to solve this problem, namely: the Quality of Interaction approach (Qi Index).
Do you want to know how this approach can be used for your organisation? Make an appointment now:
The Quality of Interaction Index, developed by Alison Reynolds and David Lewis, is an assessment tool that provides insight into the human side of change. The Qi Index maps out organisational strengths and weaknesses in terms of how people interact and how it impacts performance.
There are behaviours that need to be strengthened and let go. This to make the best use of diverse talents and perspectives of our people. The Qi Index identifies these behaviours. The Qi assessment does this by focusing on the behaviours that enhance psychological safety and cognitive diversity within the organisation in order to facilitate a generative environment.
The Qi Index is a tool that efficiently measures organisational culture and helps you optimise it. Besides the Qi for organisations, we specially offer the TeamQi. Here, it focuses specifically on people and the desired culture. It helps teams assess the Quality of Interaction in specific meetings or project initiatives.
The Qi Index is a strategic assessment used in organisations around the world. The insights from this assessment help people collaborate and build consensus around the generative and non-generative behaviours that directly impact performance and strategy execution. The Qi Index is the start of a dialogue to create a team and organisational environment that supports high-performance through the way in which we interact. The tool also provides insight into:
Which behaviour is generative, non-generative and which are directly related to performance. We believe that people are naturally eager to learn and develop. Our insights help them discover their full potential and connect this to strategy.
What kind of cooperation prevails within the organisation or between departments. Our insights ensure that organisations have continuous insight into team performance, diversity and contributions. This enables organisations to (continue to) build sustainable teams and self-managing teams.
How cognitive diversity helps to improve the performance of organisations by recognising and appreciating differences between one's own perspective and that of others. Our tools and insights make cognitive diversity measurable. As a result, teams and organisations can be better classified.
How psychological safety ensures that people feel able and free to be and express themselves which has a direct impact on creating an ideal working environment. We help organisations to align strategy with people and teams, thereby improving individual, team and organisational performance.

The Qi Index is an assessment tool that identifies interaction patterns within teams. These interaction patterns are mapped so that it is clear how and where they can be improved. With the aim of optimising both individual and team performance, but also creating better collaborations. Do team members know each other’s strengths? Then they can capitalise on these effectively. What results is an improvement in the execution of strategic team goals and overall team performance.
For organisations, the Qi Index maps which behaviours within the organisation are generative as how cognitively diverse the organisation is. The Qi Index helps create a working environment where people feel comfortable enough to dare to express themselves fully. This increases psychological safety and creates an inclusive culture.
The Qi assessment is facilitated by certified practitioners. These provide clear insight into the impact of strategic choices on the human side of the organisation. It also provides insight into how to develop an environment that encourages generative behaviour. The Qi Index maps various behaviours within business units. This makes it possible to respond to them effectively and collectively, in order to optimally implement the organisational strategy.

The TeamQi is derived from the Qi Index. The Qi Index measures organisational culture. The TeamQi has a very specific focus on the people within the team. It focuses on their interactions and part in growing towards the desired situation.
This allows change to take place efficiently at team level. The resulted insights can thus be linked back to the quality of interaction throughout the organisation.
