Jim Collins and Jerry Porras coined the term Big Hairy Audacious Goal; something that organisations and their people who run the business want to achieve. That’s easier said than done. Working out the strategy and mission of an organisation can be accomplished quite easily, but it is the executive part that is tricky. That is why Human Insight developed a practical approach to execute the strategy faster. Something we call Mission-Driven Priorities. The advantages of this approach are:
When you know what people are doing, your strategy can be executed faster.
To achieve the mission of your organisation, result areas of business units and teams must be well aligned.
The approach provides an accessible way to assess the status of progress at any time.
This unity ensures that teams can easily repeat their strategic roadmap.
Our Mission-Driven Priorities (MDP) approach helps organisational stakeholders manage strategic execution. MDP can be learned and embedded in the organisation to create a way of working for senior leadership and project teams. This creates an iterative process that allows teams to adapt their action plan to what is successful and what needs to be solved quickly to achieve certain objectives.
MDP provides a clear process that helps individuals (team leaders, leadership teams, management teams) to formulate strategic objectives. Then it moves on to assess the capabilities needed to carry out these objectives. After this, a weighting system is used to make a SWOT analysis of specific internal and external processes. From here, the team has a concrete plan of action with detailed next steps and milestones.
The process is repeated quarterly or semi-annually to determine how well the strategy is being implemented and executed.
